SADAG - November Contribution
Last month we promised that every order we completed we will donate $1 AUD to a charity or to conduct charitable activity (monthly or quarterly). It is not a lot, but this is something small we’ve always wanted to do. For this month, our focus is mental health. We’re blessed in Australia to have a great health care system, access to information and destigmatisation of mental health issues. However, in some countries, mental health is something that is still viewed in a bad light and often neglected. Studies over the last 20 years indicate a strong correlation between factors associated with poverty (lack of education and resources) and mental health, affecting some countries more than the others.
For this reason, we chose The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG).
The South African Depression and Anxiety Group is an organization that provides assistance for people who are suffering from mental illness. They help people throughout South Africa and they are also leading the way in educating people about mental health. They are working tirelessly to destigmatise mental illness and advocating for the individuals.
This non-profit organization has a network of more than 200 Support Groups that can be found all throughout South Africa, including the remote and rural areas. They have a staff of professional counselors which are available seven days a week. They also organise media campaigns that promote mental health which leads to more awareness from the masses and lessens the stigma of having mental health issues.
They held 45 Workshops for World Mental Health Day which dealt with educating people on the different kinds of mental illness along with sharing skills on how to help those individuals.
They also recently partnered with Tshikululu Social Investments to create the NPOwer initiative. NPOwer is a project that provides psychological first aid to NPO leaders, staff and volunteers who are also severely impacted by the strain and burnout caused by Covid-19.
Thank you so much, without you, this is not possible. We hope you have a blessed day. Keep moving forward !
